TFD Review: Country Options for REDD+ Benefit Sharing
In partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), The Forests Dialogue (TFD) organized a series of international dialogues under its initiative on REDD+ Benefit Sharing. Funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) this handbook is the result of dialogues in four different countries: Peru, Ghana, Mexico and Viet Nam which 250 key forest stakeholders from 25 different countries attended.
This TFD review, Country Options for REDD+ Benefit Sharing, offers unique and in-depth insights linking international aspirations to mitigate climate change with practical options on the ground that can reduce deforestation and degradation.
This review covers the following questions:
-
How should the multiple benefits of REDD+ be defined and used to incentivize stakeholders to engage in REDD+?
-
How can the costs of REDD+ be identified and reduced?
-
How can the concepts and perspectives of REDD+ benefit sharing best be communicated among stakeholder groups?
-
How can benefit-sharing be optimized according to the principles of efficiency, effectiveness and equity?
-
How should beneficiaries be identified when rights are unclear? On what basis can benefits be shared?
-
How can the active engagement of the private sector be obtained in generating and sharing benefits?
-
How can national programs be designed to accommodate different local contexts?
