Chetan Kumar
Chetan Kumar is the Global Head of the Forest and Grasslands Team at the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), based in Washington, D.C. He has over 25 years of experience conducting research and managing interdisciplinary forestry and natural resources programs. His work has focused on promoting the understanding and practical application of research on critical forestry issues, including sustainable forest management, forest landscape restoration, climate change adaptation, and biodiversity conservation. Chetan has a strong track record of developing and implementing innovative solutions to complex environmental challenges. He has built and maintained strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including governments, donors, and community members. In his previous roles, Chetan has worked with the UK Department for International Development (now FCDO), the University of Cambridge, UNEP-WCMC, CIFOR, and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). He holds a Master’s degree in Forestry Management from India, an MPhil, and a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Cambridge, UK.
