Democratic Republic of Congo Land Use Dialogues
The Democratic Republic of Congo LUD focuses on the Mangai landscape in the western part of the country. The landscape contains the Mangaï Reserve (including Gungu Reserve and Hunting Domain) which was created to facilitate the sustainable management of flora and fauna to foster local development and protect buffaloes, antelopes, and protected primates. However, due to numerous challenges the landscape is in need of restoration. These challenges include the lack of trained conservation staff, land use and resource demands in and around the reserve, insufficient law enforcement in the management of the protected area, and inadequate involvement of local and indigenous populations.
