Field Dialogue on Tree Plantations in the Landscape in New Zealand
The Forests Dialogue (TFD), New Generation Plantations (NGP), and Scion hosted an international field dialogue on Tree Plantations in the Landscape (TPL) in New Zealand from October 29th - November 3rd, 2018. This dialogue continued on the momentum generated by the TPL dialogues in Brazil, Chile, and the scoping dialogue in South Africa. The dialogue analyzed the role of tree plantations in the economic sector and the resulting social and conservation impacts, using the issues raised in earlier dialogues as a framework for discussion. This dialogue took place in the context of New Zealand’s planted forests industry, focusing on topics including Maori forestry, New Zealand’s 1 Billion Trees program, climate change mitigation, and sustainable intensification of existing forests.
