Mini-Dialogue Participants Discuss Changing Outlooks for 4Fs in Indonesia at Forests Asia Summit

16 May 2014

Jakarta, Indonesia | May 5 - The Forests Dialogue held a Mini-Dialogue at the Forests Asia Summit titled,  Dialogue on Changing Outlooks for Food, Fuel, Fiber and Forests (4Fs) in Indonesia - The case of Central Kalimantan. The increasing global demand for food, biofuel and fiber is impacting on many landscapes, often threatening the other values they deliver, including ecosystem services such as biodiversity, catchment values, and climate change mitigation. As is now widely recognized, managing landscape transitions well is fundamental to achieving sustainable development. TFD and its partners responded to these challenges and opportunities by establishing the “Changing Outlooks on Food, Fuel, Fibre and Forests” Initiative (4Fs Initiative) in 2011. The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and The Forests Dialogue (TFD) jointly convened a second 4Fs Field Dialogue in and around Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, on 16-19 March 2014. The discussion forum took the form of a ‘mini-dialogue’, drawing from the Field Dialogue to actively engage participants of Forests Asia Summit in discussion on how to support more sustainable landscape transitions in Asia. The discussion forum was designed to build a platform for participants to engage with and learn from each other’s experience.
